A Great Opening Night!

Friday was a great opening night at the Contemporary!

Over 2,000 attended the opening of I Remember Heaven: Jim Hodges and Andy Warhol.  This was the Museum's largest crowd ever, and narrowly beat out the attendance for last season's Cindy Sherman: Working Girl / Girl's Night Out opening.   Here is a shot I snapped with my camera phone of visitors waiting patiently in line to see the “Jackies” – clearly one of the Warhol favorites.  Andy Warhol Jackie Kennedy Line

The next day nearly 300 people came back to hear Jim Hodges talk about his work at the gallery tour.

If you didn't make it to opening night, you can see the exhibition for free at Select Night this Thursday (February 1st).  Also, a free Warhol film night is scheduled for Feb 8, from 5 to 8, with three of his rare films (including the bluntly titled “Blow Job”).

Thanks to all the ArtLinkers who attended the opening.  If you got a good photo of the event, send it to me and I'll post it here!

Wow! A Big Warhol / Hodges Banner

Wow!

I was driving by the Contemporary this weekend when I saw the enormous banner they have posted in preparation for this week's Grand Opening of I Remember Heaven: Jim Hodges and Andy Warhol.

There are a few things that made this banner pretty remarkable:

  1. It was massive.
  2. It was pink.
  3. It was camouflage, which is particularly ironic given numbers 1 and 2.

See for yourself in the attached photo (which you can click to enlarge).Contemporary Warhol Hodges Banner

The show opens this Friday, Janary 26.  The Member's Preview is 6 to 7 p.m. and is free for ArtLink members.  The general public is admitted from 7 to 9.  Be sure to get there for the preview -- smaller crowds and complimentary beverages.

And Deb Petersen of the St. Louis Post Dispatch wrote about the opening in her column today.  Read it here: "THE FACTORY: Andy Warhol is still a draw. Art collectors and fanciers are headed to the Lou ..."

It's shaping up to be a great show!

Cheers,
James

ArtLink and Select Night in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

With all the excitement  about the big snowstorm, you might have missed the news that ArtLink and Select Night were written up in today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The article includes the basics about Select Night (first Thursday of every month) as well as about the artists currently on display at the Contemporary, who you can see at the Select Night next Thursday.

A tip of the hat to Bethany Prange, who wrote the article.  Follow this link to read it online at STLToday.com:

Art and fun for a Select few hundred

Or if you are a print media kind of person, the article can be found in the Thursday Nov. 30 Get Out section.  There's a great color photo on page 3, and the article is on page 4.

We always like nice press coverage!

Happy Fall!

Dear all,

I am testing out my blog-savviness which is, frankly, not too savvy. But I figure the best way to get better is to start posting! As we enter into fall, the ArtLink team is thinking of creative ways to provide our members with the best experience possible.

Please feel free to use this blog as a place to comment, share thoughts or suggestions. We'd love to hear from you.

I recently attended Carts and Cocktails at Laumeier Sculpture Park and was reminded of what a treasure we have in that institution. We hope to see you at one of our events soon so that you, too, can enjoy all they have to offer (and meet some pretty darn interesting people while you're at it).

Check back regularly on our calendar as that is where we post upcoming happenings. If you want to participate and become more active within Artlink, we are seeking folks to help us plan our upcoming March ArtLink event -- our signature gala for ArtLink members.  You can even help us pick a name for the new annual event!  If you would like to learn more and possibly get involved, please send me an email: cabanne@artlinkstl.org.

XOXO

Weekend Wrap-Up

Thanks to all who came out to enjoy any of this past weekend's activities. Kudos to the Contemporary Art Museum and Laumeier for the successful collaboration.  Artists seemed thrilled by the response they received. While at Andrea Green's studio in Maplewood, I heard her say that well over 50 people had come by. The perfect end to the day was stopping by the Contemporary to enjoy cold beer, delicious barbeque and good music outside. Happy summer, and stay tuned for future summer/fall ArtLink events.

Last Call for Shakespeare!

Thank you to all the ArtLink members who came to Under the Stars at the Festival last Saturday!  Everyone had a great time, up until 8:00 when the skies opened up and the torrential rain started.  At least it held off until the scheduled end of our reception...  Check out the photos here on the website, including the cast members who came to meet our crew.

If you still haven't seen Julius Shakespeare then this is your last week, so don't put it off any longer!

The show's final performances are Wednesday June 14 through Sunday June 18 at 8:00 each night.
