WE WANT YOU...

...to volunteer at the 2008 Shakespeare Festival!  Lend a hand at St. Louis' ultimate outdoor theatre experience!

Theatre lovers and picnickers will soon be congregating in Forest Park as the Shakespeare Festival St. Louis presents The Tragedy of King Richard the Third. The Festival is free to all and runs from Memorial Day weekend through Father's Day weekend, May 21 through June 15, 2008, nightly, except for Tuesdays.

If you love theatre, then you will definitely want to volunteer.  There are many ways to get involved such as greeting theatre lovers and handing out programs, working the chair rental booths, assisting with parking, and helping at the hospitality tent.

We're looking for people with a passion for theatre and those who are ready to meet others with the same interests to help on Sunday, June 8th for the annual Young Friends/ArtLink Volunteer Night at the Festival.  If you're interested in volunteering, please email us at info@sfstl.com.

More Exciting Events Added to the ArtLink Calendar!

Hello, ArtLinkers!

We have added several new events to the ArtLink calendar, and I wanted to let you know to be sure to save those dates.

This Friday, May 9, ArtLink will be attending Art of the Vine at Laumeier Sculpture Park from 6-9 pm.

For those ArtLink members who can't make it to Laumeier, there is also an opening at the Contemporary Art Museum for their newest show, John Armleder and Oliver Mosset.  The public opening begins at 7 pm on Friday.

On Wednesday, May 28, the Contemporary and Alive Magazine bring you the 3rd installment of Flight, a fabulous cocktail party.  Tickets are normally $10, but your ArtLink membership gets you in free!

Coming in June we have two events sponsored by the Shakespeare Festival, Young Friends Volunteer Night on June 8, and Under the Stars on June 12.

And in July the Foundry Art Centre will be hosting an interactive art event, Project: Firefly.

Also in July, the Contemporary will host the 3rd annual St. Louis Open Studios.  ArtLink will be there for the opening Preview Party and the closing Starving Artist BBQ.

Each of these events is posted on the online calendar, and we'll post a message on the blog for each one as we get closer to the event date.

Thanks for being a member of ArtLink.  And if your membership has expired, be sure to Renew your ArtLink Membership online in order to take advantage of the great opportunities and discounts only available through ArtLink.

See you Friday!

PROJECT: FIREFLY hosted by the Foundry Art Centre

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 6pm

Join us for a summer evening of catching fireflies along with Missouri riverbank and creating a temporary "living light" installation at the Foundry.

Project: Firefly is an innovative community arts collaboration that will work together under specific guidelines to construct an aesthetic experience and promote creative social interaction within the St. Louis Metropolitan community.

Project_firefly While experiencing the interactive sensory artwork created by the community, enjoy milk and cookies provided by Prairie Farms and River City Catering. As you enjoy the nostalgic snack, listen and discuss the significance of fireflies and the phenomenon of bioluminescence with an entomologist from the Butterfly House. The final performative action of the project will be to gather all the fireflies in their jars and release them back into nature. This final act of freeing a living illuminating creature back into the environment will be just as -- if not more -- gratifying than capturing it.

Any interested volunteers or participants should call or e-mail the Foundry Art Centre, so that they can be given a designated position or reserved a spot in the project initiative.
