Art Fair at Laumeier and Art of the Vine

Laumeier Sculpture Park invites you to the annual Art Fair this Mother’s Day weekend. The Art Fair opens Friday, May 8 at 6:00 p.m. and continues through Sunday, May 10. The three-day event features 150 artists, music, entertainment, hands-on art activities for children, and a wide variety of food and drink. Among the 150 artists from 28 states and Canada are 15 returning award-winners from 2007.

The event kicks-off Friday night with Art of the Vine – a wine-tasting event (with a separate admission charge of $12/$10 – Laumeier & ArtLink members for unlimited tastes) featuring regional wineries Chaumette Vineyards, Crown Valley Winery, Meramec Vineyards, Saint James Winery and Stone Hill Winery. The smooth sounds of jazz/R&B favorite Lamar Harris Love Requiem will highlight Friday night’s entertainment in the Wine Garden.

Saturday’s activities will include a Jazz Festival sponsored by the City of Sunset Hills that includes performances by Dizzy Atmosphere, the Valerie Tichachek Sextet and Teddy Presberg. Creation Location, a hands-on art activity area for children, will be open during Fair hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Art Fair Hours are: Friday, May 8, 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 10, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

ArtLink members do not receive free admission to Art Fair, but do receive the discounted ticket price for Art of the Vine.

Contemporary art is hard; we get that. That's why we bring really great speakers in—we hope to provide another view about the work and inspire a dialogue. Join Terrie Sultan, Director of the Parrish Art Museum and the organizing curator of the Chantal Akerman exhibition, and exhibiting artist Carey Young, for a roundtable discussion about the two exhibitions on view. The talk will be moderated by Assistant Curator Laura Fried.

Acclaimed playwright Sarah Ruhl uses contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists and irrepressible wit to gently remind us of our capacity to laugh and love even in the face of loss.

The Orange Girls are the company in residence at the Anheuser-Busch Black Box Theater at COCA, located at 524 Trinity Ave, in the University City Loop.

Opening Weekend at the Contemporary is this weekend!

On Friday, January 23 join us for the opening of Gedi Sibony: My Arms Are Tied Behind My Other Arms and Bruce Nauman: Dead Shot Dan. The public reception is from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, but Artlink members are welcome to come to the member preview beginning at 6:00 pm.

Then, on Saturday, January 24 at 1:00 pm come back on in for Contemporary Conversations, a talk with artist Gedi Sibony and Richard Flood, Chief Curator of the New Museum in New York.
